Plenary Sessions
Plenary sessions covering Epidemiology, Genomics, Imaging and Pharmacology have been scheduled for the meeting. The plenary sessions will begin with a presentation from the primary speaker, followed by panelists’ perspectives on relevant issues. Each plenary session will conclude with audience questions and answers.

Concurrent Oral Sessions
Independent oral sessions will include recent research studies by South American groups, with time for discussion at the end of the session.

Objectives
Learning

  • Foster communication and advance knowledge about the multiple treatment possibilities for schizophrenia
  • Discuss strategies for new treatment development
  • Review the status of genetic findings
  • Review brain imaging data in relation to pathophysiology and disease progression
  • Review the status of genetic findings
  • Review brain imaging data in relation to pathophysiology and disease progression
  • Review neurochemical findings and research studies using animal models
  • Translate basic neuroscience findings of relevance to clinical practice
  • Discuss differences in incidence and outcome of schizophrenia in South American countries relative to other geographic areas and cultures

Research

  • Provide a forum for presentation and discussion of recent research studies conducted in South American countries
  • Discuss methods to advance research in schizophrenia in South America
  • Understand differences in schizophrenia research and outcome of the research across diverse geographic areas and cultures
  • Provide opportunities for future collaborative studies for research groups based in South America
